The Izera Mountains
Let us begin with the heart of the region in which Świeradów-Zdrój lies, namely the Izera Mountains, which are a true paradise for lovers of nature and active rest. The Izera Mountains, part of the Western Sudetes, offer spectacular views and varied tourist trails. They are ideal for enthusiasts of mountain hiking, skiing and mountain cycling, providing wonderful landscapes and superbly developed tourist infrastructure. The varied walking and cycling trails are adapted to different skill levels, which means everyone will find something for themselves. There will be more about the tourist attractions connected with the Izera Mountains later in the article. First, however, let us check what the town itself has to offer!
Świeradów-Zdrój – a rich spa tradition
Świeradów-Zdrój is a town with a more-than-400-year spa tradition, which conceals a rich history. The spas in Świeradów-Zdrój are famous for their therapeutic mineral waters and peat muds. Springs of acidic mineral waters were already mentioned in the 16th century, and in the 18th century analyses were carried out indicating the effectiveness of the Świeradów spring waters in treating many ailments. This resulted in the first spas, which offered drinking therapies, as well as baths in spring waters and in infusions of spruce bark and peat mud.
In Świeradów-Zdrój there are also exceptional springs of radon mineral waters which, together with the other mineral waters, are used in the treatment of rheumatic and orthopaedic conditions – including in rehabilitation – as well as in the therapy of gynaecological or circulatory ailments. The therapeutic effects are strengthened by peat-mud treatments, known for their anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties.
What to do in Świeradów-Zdrój?
Monuments and attractions in Świeradów-Zdrój
The town is full of historic villas and guesthouses from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, which are a testament to the resort's splendour in the past too. It is also worth visiting here the historic church of St Joseph, the Leopold Baths, the Szarotka sanatorium from 1900, the villa complex on ul. Asnyka from 1905, and the Spa Park with its preserved original vegetation.
The promenade and the promenade hall
One of the town's interesting attractions is the walking promenade, which offers not only beautiful views but also plenty of cafés and shops. Another interesting place is the 19th-century municipal spa complex, which comprises a spectacular larch promenade hall 80 m long, filled with beautiful vegetation and connected to the water pump room in the Spa House. The promenade hall in Świeradów is distinguished by its exceptional atmosphere and is one of the longest in Lower Silesia, making it an ideal place for walks in any weather.

The Spa House in Świeradów, to which the promenade hall leads, conceals an artificial grotto and a mineral-water pump room. The present Spa House stands on the site of the Spring House built in the 18th century, which burned down in 1895. Its characteristic feature is the 45-metre clock tower and the beautiful ornamentation.
The Spa Park
Another place that lets you draw fully on the beautiful qualities of the surroundings is the Spa Park, located directly within the town. It is an oasis of calm and relaxation, full of health paths, spectacular vegetation, places to rest and secluded nooks. It is an ideal place for a peaceful walk or a moment of reflection in the bosom of nature.
The gondola lift – an attraction in winter and summer!
The next tourist attraction that lets you enjoy the wonderful mountain landscapes of Świeradów is the gondola lift, leading up to Stóg Izerski. The ride on the lift provides breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and emerald forests, and the summit creates excellent conditions for practising winter sports and for walking.

Nature and active rest – tourist trails
The Izera Mountains are an ideal combination of beautiful spruce forests, mountains, rivers (the Izera and the Kwisa), spring streams and murmuring waterfalls (including the Poidło Waterfall and the Kwisa Waterfall). It is a place of wonderful scenic qualities, providing a dream form of recreation, relaxation, calming down and the chance to commune with nature in its most beautiful form.
Świeradów-Zdrój offers many tourist trails, both for walking and cycling, which lead through the picturesque areas of the Izera Mountains. They are ideal for lovers of activity and nature. It is also worth noting that Świeradów-Zdrój is located near another popular tourist resort, Szklarska Poręba, and is therefore a great base for exploring other parts of the Western Sudetes.
The Izera Mountains – viewpoints
The viewpoints in Świeradów-Zdrój are a guarantee of savouring breathtaking scenery presenting the beautiful panorama of the mountains. They are ideal places for a moment's rest and for admiring the landscapes, which stay in the memory for a long time. Among the most spectacular, which simply must be visited, are above all three observation towers:
- The SKY WALK tower – a tower that is one of the greatest attractions of Świeradów-Zdrój; it is an impressive structure allowing you to admire the panorama of the Izera Mountains from a completely new perspective. It is an exceptional place for anyone who wants to feel a thrill of emotion and see the mountains almost from a bird's-eye view. The tower is about 60 metres high, and a wooden path 850 metres long leads to its top. An additional attraction is the glass viewing platform, and the fact that you can come down from the tower on a slide 105 metres long.
- The Młynica observation tower – an exceptional observation tower located on Młynica (653 m above sea level). Its characteristic element is the grated staircase. The tower's height is just under 34 metres; it is equipped with two viewing platforms – at a height of 15.5 metres and at a height of 23.7 metres.
- The observation tower on Czerniawska Kopa – an atmospheric wooden observation tower 15 metres high, located on the summit of Czerniawska Kopa (776 m above sea level). It guarantees wonderful views in beautiful forest surroundings. It is also equipped with two viewing platforms.
The Izera Dark Sky Park
Enthusiasts of astronomy, stars and astrophotography will certainly be delighted by the chance to observe and capture them without pollution by artificial light, because in the Izera Mountains there is one of the few areas in Poland in which special dark sky parks have been created. The Izera Dark Sky Park is a unique place where you can admire the stars and galaxies in their full, majestic glory, without the disturbance of city light.
As you can see, Świeradów-Zdrój is an exceptional place that captivates not only with its spa heritage and the beauty of nature, but also with its well-developed tourist infrastructure and many attractions, which are interesting both for enthusiasts of sport or recreation and for lovers of history and nature.
